Board Candidate Bios

The upcoming WSFR Board of Directors election will take place on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. To help voters make an informed decision, WSFR has contacted all candidates to provide information about themselves. Below are the responses we have received from each candidate.
Nathan A. Rea
Windsor, CO for 5 years.
Married with 4 children between age 10 and 16.
Associates from Aims CC and working toward BS in public safety. 20 years as a firefighter/EMT.
Currently serving the with the Longmont Fire Department for 16 years. Prior to working for the city, I served 9 years in the United States Marine Corps with 2 deployments to Iraq.
Our community is growing fast, and with that comes bigger demands for our fire service; more homes, more businesses, and more lives to protect. My vision is for our firefighters to be well trained and ready for response to any situation our community calls upon them for.
The fire district is growing rapidly and with that growth our district needs to grow with it. This requires training and retention of outstanding firefighters and leadership. I intend to address this by supporting the leadership that is put in place to provide funding, facilities, and direction to keep our outstanding talent and community safe.
With 20 years as a firefighter and engineer, I’m running to keep Windsor Severance Fire Rescue ready for our growing community. I have firsthand experience in a fast-growing community and the needs that come with it. I want to ensure our fire department is supported and ready for the growth that is coming to Windsor and Severance.
I view my position on the Board as providing the support for the Chief Officers. The Chiefs know the “why” of the fire service and my job as a board member is to keep them supported and give them the resources, they need to continue building better fire fighters.
I’ve served as a firefighter, currently as an engineer on Tower 1 with the City of Longmont Fire Department for over 20 years. I’ve seen firsthand what it takes to keep a community safe, skill, teamwork, and the right tools. Windsor and Severance are growing fast, and our fire service needs to keep up. I’m committed to ensuring our firefighters are well-trained and well-equipped to handle any emergency. With my experience, I’ll bring strong leadership to the WSFR Board to protect our families, homes, and future. I am here to serve the public and continue to help our community grow.
Mike Medhurst
Windsor
Married with two adult sons
College education, with over 30 years as both an EMT and in the fire service.
Currently employed with the Greeley Fire Department, and have worked there for over 27 years.
My vision for the fire district is for us to continue to provide excellent emergency services with a high level customer service being the focus.
I believe the growth of the district and having appropriate funding for that growth is one of our biggest challenges. I plan to address this with engaging staff in conversations about what is the best way to accomplish these goals, which ones have the highest priority, and making sure our funding sources can support it.
Being a part of the fire service for many years has given me a firsthand inside to what and how these services should be provided to the community. I want to help be a part of that positive change.
To make sure the district is providing the appropriate and outstanding services to community as possible.
I have enjoyed serving on the board for the last 3 years, and I am looking forward to serving another term. I will always be open minded to other points of view, and will always make myself available to discuss my position or other concerns that others may have, with any residents of the district.
Scott Jonathan Duda
Windsor resident since 2007 (Born and raised in Fort Collins)
Wife: Heather
Children: Son – Hunter & Daughter – Emma
Dogs: Sammy and Charlie
Fort Collins High School Graduate (Class of 2002), I was a volunteer fire fighter for Wellington Fire Protection District from 2005 - 2006.
Production Manager for Rocky Mountain Truckworks (2006 – 2019), Self Employed: High Plains Fabrication LLC. since 2014 (full time as of Nov.2019 - Present)
My goal is to:
- provide a fiscally conservative approach, assuring we can manage future growth of our department.
- Assuring that the department is provided the means to continue meeting the expectations of our community with the best services possible.
- Making sure that we have the ability to attract the best talent to our department.
- Providing the best opportunities for our fire fighters to maintain the highest level of training and best equipment.
The biggest challenge that I see is handling the amount of growth in our community, while still maintaining an ever changing environment as far as call types and call volume is concerned.
I feel that assuring that our department has a wide variety of training opportunities is one of the best tools we have as our community continues to grow into more of a urban/industrial area which obviously changes the volume and types of call the department will receive.
Another part of this, is maintaining the proper equipment and facilities that are needed to handle our unique community.
I have always held a passion for serving. I served as a Volunteer fire fighter at Wellington Fire Protection District from 2005-2006 and found a true passion for helping in the community. When we moved to Windsor in 2007, my wife and I knew we had found something special. We love the sense of community pride that is present in this wonderful Town.
Since 2020, I have served as a resource for Windsor High School students interested in both entrepreneurship as well as working in the trades. I have provided in-class discussion as well as shop tours and job shadowing opportunities for the High School. Additionally, I have been a active sponsor for the Windsor High School and Middle School Robotics teams, providing materials, equipment, and shop space to the teams to assist them in their builds as well as outreach projects.
Now, I have this opportunity to help give back the community by utilizing my skills as a past fire fighter, business manager, active community member, and entrepreneur.
The most important responsibility I see as a Board member is to provide a balanced perspective between the needs of an ever growing department and community expectations.
Ultimately, my goal is to provide a unique, balanced, and fiscally responsible position on the Board. I feel that with my background, I can fulfill the communities needs, as well as the departments expectations, and provide both parties with a valuable resource to make sure that overall needs and objectives are being thought out and implemented in a efficient and effective manner.
In the end, I want to see our fire department as well as our community have the resources to provide the best overall livelihood for all of our fir fighters and citizens.
